Clarinetist, Paul Vincent Petrucelli, has been heard in many of the great performance spaces across the United States including Severance Hall, Carnegie Hall, Benaroya Hall, the Art Institute of Chicago and, most recently, at Chicago's Orchestra Hall where he performed Scott McAllister’s Freebirds, soloing alongside Dr. Eric Mandat. In addition to his domestic performances, Petrucelli has been a featured performer in Europe and across China. Paul has performed with The Civic Orchestra of Chicago, The Southern Illinois Symphony, the Chicago Chamber Orchestra and the Chicago Clarinet Ensemble. He has also performed at the Chautauqua Music Festival, Norfolk New Music Festival and was an artist at 2009 International Clarinet Festival in Porto, Portugal where he premiered Four Tempers, a chamber piece by Eric Mandat. In 2005, along with his chamber group, Paul received first prize in the Darius Milhaud Competition. In 2008, he won the Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra Solo Competition. He also received 2nd Prize in the Southern Illinois Young Artist Competition. In 2003 Paul won first prize in the International Clarinet Association High School Competition.
In recent years, Petrucelli has developed a passion for new music and has premiered numerous works. Paul looks forward to his continual work with composers and furthering the development of the clarinet in modern music.
Following his graduation from the Interlochen Arts Academy, Paul went on to receive his BM from the Cleveland Institute of Music and his MM from Southern Illinois University: Carbondale. He has studied in the studios of Lylburn Layer, Nathan Williams, Eric Mandat, Franklin Cohen, Sean Osborn and John Bruce Yeh. Paul has held private studios in Cleveland, OH, Carbondale, IL and Chicago, IL. While attending CIM, his chamber ensembles were coached by the late John Mack whose coaching helped develop his appreciation and understanding of chamber music.
Paul currently resides in Tallahasse Florida and is a Doctoral Candidate studying in the studio for Dr. Frank Kowalski.
